Shannon Trust

Shannon Trust supports prisoners who can read to teach prisoners who can't using Turning Pages, a reading programme specifically designed for adults learning to read. Each year, we work with over 4,000 new Learners in across 124 prisons in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our Learners each work with one of nearly 2,000 prisoner Mentors taking part in the Shannon Trust Reading Plan. The success of the Reading Plan in rooted in our, by prisoners for prisoners ethos. Learners and Mentors say they like the Reading Plan because it's 1-to-1, private, voluntary and they can learn at their own pace. Involvement in the Reading Plan helps people obtain vital reading skills but also allows them to develop confidence, aspirations to continue learning, make positive changes to their lives and see themselves as successful learners.
