SPECIALIST // Tom Farrand’s Bio
I’m one of the founders of Swarm, a creative collaboration company that exists to accelerate business unusual. I’m also one of the founders and original members of Good for Nothing – a growing community of smart folk collaborating and experimenting to help grassroots innovators accelerate their work and grow their impact – for nothing.
I’m part-scientist, part-creative and part-instigator. An explorer at heart. Born in Nairobi, I spent my early childhood playing outside, tracking wildlife in Land Rovers, climbing trees and avoiding snakes. With a Masters in Biochemistry, I stumbled into an R&D job at P&G. That lead to a 15 year career in brand marketing and business innovation across a variety of innovation, branding and management consultancies before I changed tack to seek more purposeful work.
For the last 8 years, I’ve been leading a number of experiments and collaborative multidisciplinary social innovation projects that point human energy and creativity towards tough systemic challenges. Applying the skills, expertise and approaches that are used to build strong brands to solving social and environmental problems and creating better businesses. I get a huge kick out of helping large, diverse groups harness their collective intelligence, creativity and energy to make good things happen. And specialise most recently in helping individuals, teams and organisations pioneer into new spaces, markets and opportunities.
Often found tracking wildlife with my family. Or on boards. Preferably on snow or water but sometimes with leadership teams. And I go running a lot, in the hills.
When I grow up, I really want to be a game-park ranger…
