Last year we conducted a survey with 3,000 people across the US, UK, Brazil, India and South Africa. We found that illiteracy is not currently top of mind, compared to issues such as terrorism, poverty and corruption. In fact, it ranks 15th in a league table of global problems.

Yet the fact is, illiteracy is linked to many of the world’s challenges. Improving literacy has a positive ripple effect on these other problems. You can learn more about this by visiting the Alphabet of Illiteracy.

To make a positive difference to literacy rates globally the first thing we have to do do is get people talking about the issue.
